Welcome
At Sacred Connections Counseling LLC, we care deeply about your experiences and seek to honor the inner healer that resides in all of us.
Approach
I am committed to meet people where they are and support the connection between mind, body, community, and the Earth. My therapeutic approach weaves together trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, and mindfulness-based therapies.
Meet Dr. Wanni
Hello! My name is Wanni Zhou. I am the daughter of Chinese immigrants who grew up in the midst of the Cultural Revolution. I was born in Nanjing, China and brought up by my grandmother in my early years. I have lived in rural Canada and the Midwest of the United Sates and have found my home in New Mexico. As a result of pressures to assimilate and a history of cultural destruction, I grew up detached from many aspects of my lineage. Through art, music, community, and perpetual learning, I seek to reconnect with what is inherently in my nature. I am a painter, pianist, rock climber, avid reader, amateur cook, novice gardener, and lover of people and animals.
Regarding my academic background, I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from St. Louis University and completed my internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Southwest Consortium (New Mexico VA Healthcare System/Indian Health Services). Afterward, I served as a psychologist to a primary care clinic in the University of New Mexico Hospital system. My clinical experiences span the areas of health psychology, behavioral medicine, outpatient/inpatient treatment, and underserved settings.

Land Acknowledgement
As a visitor to this land, I acknowledge that we are on the unceded, traditional homelands of the Pueblos of Sandia and Isleta and the Tiwa-speaking Peoples. I acknowledge the historical and contemporary presence and experiences of the original communities of New Mexico—the Pueblo peoples, the Navajo Nation, and the Apache Nations. The Indigenous communities continue to persist despite historical and ongoing experiences of racism and other forms oppression. I honor the enduring relationship that exists between the Indigenous community and their traditional lands and am committed to learning how to be a better steward of the land.
